Next COVID-19 Relief Package on Pace for March Approval
The House and Senate are aggressively moving forward with plans to advance President Biden's new COVID-19 relief proposal. The effort will employ a process requiring only simple majorities in both chambers to send a final bill to the president. The current pace would likely yield a final product in March.
The administration has expressed a willingness to consider tweaks to the proposal. However, the overall size of $1.9T appears to be relatively firm. FSU is joining with other SUS campuses and national higher education and research advocacy groups to communicate with the FL congressional delegation about the need for an additional $97B for institutions' COVID-19 related expenses and $26B to research agencies for grantee projects negatively impacted by the crisis. Faculty and staff with instructive examples of needs brought about by the pandemic are encouraged to contact the Office of Federal Relations.
