Equipment and Infrastructure Enhancement Grant (EIEG)

Full Proposal Suggestions and Possible Approaches

The following general suggestions are made to enhance the chances of a successful evaluation by the Review Panel, all of whom have previously evaluated major proposals.

  • EIEG Proposal Transmittal Form
    • Purpose: To show departmental support and involved faculty commitment.
    • This form should not be used for CRC or Cornerstone Grants.
    • Disclose the full amount requested to be covered by the EIEG.
  • Abstract
    • Purpose: To convey an overview of the proposal.
    • Should state the main purpose of the proposal, provide an overview of the hypothesis and approach, and describe how the equipment or tool will move the field of knowledge or performance forward. It is particularly important that this section be written in lay language. Should not be longer than one page.
  • Proposal Document
    • Purpose: To demonstrate that the proposal meets the criteria of the program
    • Describe the niche the equipment will fill in the proposed field(s) of study.
    • Describe the scientific significance of the work that the equipment will allow and why the equipment merits EIEG funding.
    • How does the proposal achieve the goals of the EIEG Program?
    • What impact will the equipment have on FSU? on the state or nation?
    • Will the equipment be unique to FSU or is an upgrade to current assets?
    • Will the equipment have any multiple disciplinary linkages important to the proposed work? Other work?
    • What budget items will the EIEG funding be used for?
    • Where will other funding be sought, specifically?
    • A well thought out discussion on a plan of action to sustain the equipment would have a better impact than extravagant claims of benefits.
  • Current and Pending Support Document
    • Purpose: To demonstrate the faculty members have experience doing research and creative activity and can be good stewards of these support funds.
    • Have you had any unsuccessful attempts at securing funding in the past? Why?
  • Biographical Sketch
    • Purpose: To demonstrate that involved faculty understands the research or creative needs of the proposed research in the larger context.
