  5. What is the intent and selection criteria of the program?

    The intent of the EIEG program is to give FSU faculty and staff a means to acquire equipment that they cannot obtain through other internal and external funding channels and to enhance collaborative research for the University in ways directly related to enhancing research and or creative activities for the University across many disciplines.

    The selection criteria of the program are as follows:

    • Merit of the research that will be enabled;
    • Expected improvement in competition for external funding;
    • Improvement to the FSU research infrastructure, over time;
    • Cross discipline and cross campus utilization

    Following the first round of reviews based on the published criteria the Review Panel paid particular attention to:

    • Whether the proposed equipment is truly unique to FSU or it is an upgrade to current FSU assets.
    • Whether the equipment is beneficial to multiple departments, multiple projects, multiple disciplines, and multiple researchers.
    • Whether the proposed research that will be conducted with the equipment is likely to be funded at the federal level.
    • Whether the involved faculty demonstrated they have experience doing research and creative activities and can be good stewards of support funds.
    • Whether there were alternate sources available to the research to fund the proposed work.
